Walnut is the premium look in our frameless catalog — a deep, rich brown with real grain movement. On a frameless door it reads as custom millwork rather than as stock cabinetry, which is why it is the finish that photographs best out of everything we carry.

Door Style: 5-piece recessed Door Panel: 3/4" thick full overlay of birch (painted surfaces are made of high density fiber board)

Drawer: 5/8" thick cabinet grade plywood sides with full extension, under-mounted, soft-close, steel concealed drawer glides

Drawer Box: Dovetail drawers with 1/2" thick solid wood sides, removable for easy cleaning

Interior: Natural clear coat finish, 1/2" thick stretchers applied to back of cabinets

Box: 1/2" thick cabinet grade plywood with metal L bracket reinforcements for base cabinets

Using a Dark Wood Well

Walnut is warm but it is dark, so it wants light around it. Pair it with a pale stone, a light floor, or white or oak cabinetry elsewhere in the room. A full walnut kitchen works in a bright space with big windows; in an average kitchen it is usually stronger as the feature rather than the whole.

Hardware-wise, brass and blackened bronze both suit it. Chrome tends to look cold against this much warmth.

Where Walnut Works Best

Islands, where a walnut waterfall against a light perimeter is about as strong as a kitchen gets. Full-height pantry walls, where the continuous grain across a tall run is the whole effect. Wet bars, offices and libraries. And in open-plan homes, where the kitchen needs to hold its own next to actual furniture.

Common Questions

Is this solid walnut?

No. It is a durable walnut-look melamine surface with matching PVC edge banding over a premium plywood box — which in a kitchen holds up better than a real veneer, since it will not fade, lift or need refinishing.

Will it fade near a window?

Real walnut veneer lightens noticeably in direct sun. This finish does not, which is one of the main practical reasons to specify it over a veneer.

Can I do a walnut island with white cabinets?

Yes — that is the most popular way it gets used. Pair it with our Matte White frameless for a consistent frameless look, or with a white shaker perimeter if the rest of the kitchen is traditional.
