Onyx Black is a true black shaker, not a very dark charcoal. That distinction matters more than it sounds like it should — a charcoal reads as a grey that went too far, while a real black reads as a decision. Around a range or hood, where a black run makes the appliance the subject instead of competing with it. On a full pantry wall, where the depth makes the wall recede rather than loom. A Note On Scale
Black is heavy. In a large open kitchen with real natural light, a full black run is stunning. In a standard 10-by-12 kitchen with one window it will close the room in. Most of our black jobs are partial — island, base run, pantry, bar — and that is usually the right instinct.
Common Questions
Do black cabinets show dust and fingerprints?

More than a mid-tone, less than a gloss finish. A painted black shaker shows dust on the top edges and horizontal surfaces. It wipes off easily — it just wants wiping a little more often than a grey or a wood tone.
Black or Midnight Blue?

Black is the harder, more graphic choice and works best as an accent or against a lot of light. Midnight Blue carries some of the same weight but is easier to live with across a whole kitchen.
What countertop works with black cabinets?

Anything with visible movement — a white or grey stone with veining gives the eye somewhere to go. A solid flat white counter against black can look stark, though that is sometimes the point.
