Matte Black Frameless Cabinets

Matte Black is flat black with no sheen, on a frameless door with no frame and no profile. The result is about as graphic as cabinetry gets — a solid block of black with nothing interrupting it. Used well it is the highest-impact finish in our catalog.

Use It as a Feature, Not a Default

Almost every good matte black kitchen we quote uses it for part of the room rather than all of it. A black base run under matte white uppers. A black island in an oak kitchen. A full-height pantry wall that reads as architecture. A wet bar or butler's pantry where a dark, enclosed feel is the point.

Full matte black kitchens do work — in large rooms with a lot of glass, where there is enough light for the black to feel deliberate rather than heavy.

Beyond the Kitchen

Matte black frameless is a strong specification for offices, media rooms, commercial break rooms and reception millwork, where a flat door is quick to wipe down and hides wear better than a profiled one.

Common Questions

Is matte black hard to keep clean?

1

It shows dust and water spots more than a mid-tone and less than a gloss. In practice it wipes clean easily — it just wants wiping a bit more often than a wood or grey finish.

Matte Black frameless or Onyx Black shaker?

2

Frameless if the kitchen is modern and you want a flat unbroken surface. Shaker if the house is traditional or transitional and a paneled door fits better. Same colour family, very different rooms.

What pairs with matte black?

3

Natural Oak or Walnut for warmth, Matte White for hard contrast, or brass hardware if you want the black to feel rich rather than austere.
